Everight Healthcare Foundation, in partnership with the TY Danjuma Foundation, successfully sponsored a Hepatitis B and C Screening initiative in Government Secondary Schools located in Kubwa. During this impactful event, over 800 consented pupils and teachers were screened across three different government secondary schools.

Since the discovery of the Hepatitis B virus in 1965 and the Hepatitis C virus in 1989, there has been a notable increase in the prevalence of these infections, particularly in states surrounding the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This situation underscores the urgent need to screen students who frequently interact with one another and with peers from various regions.
In response to this pressing health concern, the Foundation has prioritized screening students in Government Secondary Schools located in the Kubwa axis, recognized as one of the most populous areas within the FCT. This initiative aims to promote awareness and early detection of Hepatitis B and C among the youth, fostering a healthier community.
Leveraging a five million Naira (N5,000 000.00) discretionary grant from the TY Danjuma Foundation, a total of 2000 students and teachers across three (3) secondary schools (SS1 – SS3) in Kubwa, Abuja were estimated for Hepatitis B and C screening between 18th – 20th February 2025, based on the population size provided by the Secondary Education Board (SEB) who were consulted during advocacy visits to obtain approvals for the intervention program.
